Welcome to the Pre-conference workshops. In the morning, Eileen Curran will concentrate on converting print handouts into braille. You are welcome to bring a laptop with any software that you might use such as Scientific Notebook, but the workshop is not intended to be a “hands-on” experience, as people will come to the workshop with different levels of knowledge. Handouts will be emailed in advance for the most part. Handouts in .BRF format will also be available.

- Fine-tuning files in DBT prior to handing them to the student

- How will students complete their worksheets (notetaker, paper worksheets, separate answer sheets, etc.
- Receiving electronic files from the student: (brf, bru.
- Opening the files in DBT and saving to LaTeX
- Viewing, editing and printing the files in Scientific Viewer or Scientific Notebook
- What problem areas to watch for
About the Presenter
Eileen Curran is a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) and Assistive Technology Specialist working with the Carroll Center for the Blind in Massachusetts. She is the Chair of the Braille Literacy Advisory Council, appointed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, charged with developing the implementation plan for UEB in the state. Eileen worked for National Braille Press (NBP) for more than twenty years as Vice President for Education Services and Chief Braille Officer. She was the BANA representative for NBP, having been on the board when the original letter from Dr. Abe Nemeth and Dr. Tim Cranmer first proposed a unified braille code. Eileen lives in MA with her husband, her 13-year-old daughter, and her 18-year-old son.
